2. How to apply for a student visa?
In order to apply for a student visa, you need the following documents:
- A completed application form
- A current passport or travel document
- A C.A.S. (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from a licensed sponsor
- Documents to show that you have enough money to support living in the UK, pay for your studies and have enough money to travel home.
- Documents from your sponsor when they accepted you onto the course.
- Your ID card (if applying from within the UK)
- Biometric details if you’re applying from outside the UK (All UK visa applicants, save for those benefiting from a limited number of exemptions and exceptions, are required to provide biometric data—10-digit fingerscans and a digital photograph) as part of the application process. You will have to go to your nearest visa application centre in person to provide your biometrics. In those countries where there is no visa application centre, you will need to go to the British mission.
As soon as you have your C.A.S. you must contact your local British Embassy. It is important to apply for your visa as early as possible. To see where you must apply for your visa in your country, please look at the following website: UK visa website. 3. Which student visa do I need?
Tier 4 visa
- You should apply for this visa if you want to come to Speak School to study for 6 months or more. You must apply for this visa before you arrive in the UK.
- You can extend this visa in the UK and should be given permission to work limited hours in the UK.
Student Visitor visa
- You should apply for a student visitor visa if you want to come to Speak School to study for 6 months or less. If you are a visa national you must apply for your visa before you arrive in the UK.
- You cannot extend your visa while you are in the UK at the end of the 6 month, you must return home.
- You cannot change your visa to a Tier 4 visa if you came to the UK with a Student Visitor visa.
- You will not be able to work (paid or unpaid) if you have a Student Visitor visa.
- If you are an EU/EEA or Swiss national and you have accepted a place on a course at Speak School, you can enter the UK without a visa and you also have the right to live in the UK for the time you will be studying on your course. Although not compulsory, people from the EU/EEA can apply for a UK residence permit; this confirms that you have the right of residence in the UK under European Community Law.

Students with families
- If you and your family are not EU/EEA/Swiss National then you need to apply for Dependant Visas for your family.
- You need to apply for this at the same time as your Tier 4 visa.
- If you and your family are EU/EEA/Swiss Nationals then they do not need to apply for a visa, but it is a good idea to apply for an EEA Family Permit.
